Klesis Youth Convention  (KYC) provides an opportunity to talk to our youth about the calling of God (gr., klesis) to our lives. In a society that is strongly secular, the panorama is not very encouraging. Moreover, if we consider that a young adult, whom has spent 16 years receiving an academic education, has also received at least 20,000 hours of direct secular training and only a modest 820 hours  of informal Biblical training during the same time frame, we note that the difference is overwhelming.

It is no wonder that much of the youth that is born into a Christian home does not remain in the Lord. Education in our secular society, although technically very vanguard, promotes at a young age moral relativism; such as “if you feel that it is okay, then do it”, which favors conducts that would typically be at odds with morality as healthy and normal by today’s standards.

KYC is the attempt of the Evangelical Pentecostal Church in the United States (EPCUSA), as part of the body of Christ in this great nation, to contribute in the battle against this trend. For this reason, the youth is shown that klesis is found eloquently outlined within the scripture through principles that when applied can produce a full and healthy life that transcends beyond death. The convention is based upon topics, such as: the gospel of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit, spiritual life, missionary life, professional life, principles of purity and sanctity, principles of the Christian lifestyle, faith and science, taken care of one’s body, physical and emotional health issues, tendencies of the modern world, and many more. We apply the methodology of a group conversation, characterized by being dynamic, participation based and interactive.

The purpose of KYC is (1) to strengthen the work being done with the youth in the US, (2) to form a youth equipped to face problems in today’s world, and (3) to allow the youth strengthen and/or create relationships with other youth members around the world. For this reason, we normally invite youth from the churches of our denomination located in the Americas, Africa Europe, and Australia in order to show our youth the magnitude of our Christian family.

[1] Note: assuming that during 16 years a person attends regularly two church services on Sunday, without missing one. Each service is assumed to have thirty minutes of bible teaching.
